Andy Lingham BSc, C Geol, FGS
Wednesday, 4th in month 10:00 – 11:30
Venue: Cheadle Community Fire Station.
I have recently taken on the responsibility for coordinating the Geology group. I have lived in the area for 22 years and although recently retired, have worked as a professional geologist from 1969, mainly in the field of coal geology, drilling for coal reserves, assessing the results and designing surface mines. Environmental issues have become more important in recent years, and I have been involved in environmental impact assessments of many mining projects.
We will be looking at many aspects of geology including earth processes, geological time, plate tectonics, the geology of the Peak District, geological mapping and types of rocks, how they were formed and how they influence the landscape and affect our lives. The winter months will be based indoors but in the spring time we will venture out to visit sites of geological interest to see at first hand aspects discussed and studied indoors.
Following the summer break, the Group will meet on Wednesday 22nd September 2010 at 10 am at the Cheadle Fire Station and will continue meeting on the 4th Wednesday of the month. We shall continue our programme of geological topics, commencing with a look at the geology of the Peak District
We welcome new members so please contact me for more information.
